We’re getting a 3.2% increase. PUD has already announced a rate hike. Soon to follow, cable, water, and any other rate increase you can think of. You can’t get ahead.
And with all the fighting in Congress over government funding which resulted in a drop in national credit rating, the stock and bond markets both took major hits over the year resulting in retirement portfolio losses. That means less from a 4% withdrawal or a higher percentage to keep the ends with in reach.
Yep… as soon as Biden started handing out all those ’free checks during the pandemic, major price increase rapidly followed and have not let up. Everyone wants a piece of you.
I just finished the paperwork and we dropped it off today for our application for “Partial Exemption from Real Estate Taxes for Senior Citizens” for 2004-2005.
I am an accountant and I have never had a tax audit for any of my clients which were as complicated as this and request as much info. It takes me weeks to make copies of everything they need – put in a format with cover pages so they can follow it (as I still working, self-employed – barely – for example, I have to give them copies of all of our cable bills as part of the Internet service is used for business and is an expense of same, ditto our credit card bill for the cell phone charges for the business), fill in the application, scan a copy of it all – just in case. Then since one year when I mailed it in they called they did not get it, so I had to print it all out again and bring it there – and they had the copy I had mailed! So now I walk it in every year – husband drops me off as parking lot always full, and wait, so I get a receipt from them that they have it!

While things are okay now, I’m concerned about our finances lasting long enough. As stated above, there’s no getting ahead…
