   Don’t think so – I’ve been reading the strip since long before Echo first appeared, and don’t remember hearing Bob’s origin story. Bob dates back to at least 1988.

   “Yvan Eht Nioj” is a reference to an episode of The Simpsons where Bart and his friends form a boy band, and the song they perform includes that phrase – it’s “Join the Navy” backwards; the band’s manager was really a Navy recruiter

Congress once passed a law allowing people with U.S. passports who were born in Jerusalem to have their place of birth listed as “Jerusalem, Israel”; the Supreme Court said, “No, only the President can decide that sort of thing.” Now, is it Burma, or Myanmar? Saigon, or Ho Chi Minh City?
