My understanding is that the Pope has a rather modest apartment in the Vatican. It’s possible that in past centuries there were luxurious (for the day) palaces for the Pope, but not today.

Once a clerical error assigned an engineer to Hell. After getting there, the engineer looked around, began designing and installed an air conditioning system, an irrigation system, and other improvements so that things were actually starting to get fairly nice down there.

Saint Peter discovered the error, and went down below to clear it up and bring the engineer back. The Devil would have none of it, as he liked having an engineer on his staff. At that, Saint Peter threatened to take Satan to court on the issue.

The Devil only laughed. “You might have all the engineers”, said the Devil, “but we have all the lawyers”.

This cartoon was drawn in 1952. A dollar back then would have had the buying power of about $15 today.

I have a recipe for a shark stew. My thought was to have people over, watch “Jaws”, then get our revenge by eating the stew.

No, I never did, and never made the stew. I am well aware that sharks are an endangered species and only eat seafood that was sustainably wild caught.

That restaurant was phony to be sure, but one bad restaurant shouldn’t implicate an entire six-state region.

Did you try any genuine lobster shacks in Maine or elsewhere? Did you check out the history in Plymouth or Salem? Northampton is a bustling college town with a lot to do. In Hartford Connecticut the Old State House, the Mark Twain House, and the Harriet Beecher Stowe House are worth seeing. The Wadsworth Atheneum is the oldest public art museum in the US. Old Wethersfield, just south of Hartford, is a pleasant walk with some fine restaurants and shops. There is much to see in Providence and Newport, Rhode Island. Much to be learned about the old sailing ships and whaling in nearby Mystic, Connecticut. New Hampshire, Vermont, and inland Maine are not so easy to negotiate as a tourist, but a little research will yield some interesting places.

One needs to give New England (or any other region) a realistic chance.

Well, I remember an old “Dennis the Menace” episode from way back where Mr. Wilson is considering selling his house. Dennis is there and says he will help. Dennis is in the next scene carrying a drum like the one Fritzi has, walking up and down the street in front of the Wilsons’ house, yelling “House for Sale! (boom! boom!)..House for Sale! (boom! boom!)…”
