   We didn’t have a dog, but we had a cat (we got her when I was four)and this was me at Red’s age with my cat. The cat started out sleeping in the basement. When I got a little older I started sneaking her upstairs to sleep with me. :)

    We had a cat when I was a kid(got her when I was four) and she started out in the basement at night, until I got a little older and I would sneak her upstairs to sleep in my room.
