   When I was 16 I lived in a city in the midwest where half the stations in town were owned by one person. When she decided there was getting to be to much competition she would start a gas war (anyone else remember those) and lower prices until enough of the competitors were driven out of business. I bought gas for 19 cents a gallon in 1969. In 1970 we moved to California, across from a Texaco. Bought gas in the low 20 cent range, full service, got a glass, and stamps that I saved up and redeemed for a Stanley router that I still use. Mid 70’s when stations were running out of gas the guys in the station would tip us off when they were getting a delivery so we could get there before the lines formed. Gas was about 50 cents when a guy running a station told me that the predictions were that gas was going to go over a dollar a gallon. I didn’t believe him. No one could afford to pay that much for gas.

   Glad to hear that. Our own kids kept coming back, and back, and back, in between serving in the Peace Corps and entering graduate programs. but for the last 8 years everyone is out on their own, married, and producing grandchildren.
