Even ignoring the antebellum and civil war eras, you obviously haven’t looked at extant newspapers and literature – especially from some underrepresented communities.

There are multiple issues at any one time. Just because a cartoonist doesn’t focus solely on one doesn’t mean the ine s/he’s focusing on isn’t worthy of it’s own discussion.
