I can’t help but wonder what brought this on. One too many Elvis sightings?

Usually my cats just watch the wildlife. There are squirrels who get within inches of the cats knowing they’re completely safe. However, yesterday I found a dead chipmunk under the coffee table. I guess the poor little thing had a heart attack. No way the cats actually killed it outright.

With the little mask, the bird looks like a cedar waxwing. Dunno if they migrate to NJ, but I saw them in Michigan when we lived there.

Same with wrens and mockingbirds. They can be vicious.

  9. 9 days ago on Speed Bump

Is that Rex? Partial story:Piddle No. 9

But on and on went noble RexAs wet as any rill,And all the champion city pupsWere pee’d to a standstill. The Rex did free-hand piddlingWith fancy flirts and flitsLike “double dip” and gimlet twist"And all those latest hits.

    Piddle No. 10

And all the time this country dog Did never wink or grin,But piddled blythely out of townAs he had piddled in.

    The Puddle

The city dogs conventions heldTo ask “What did defeat us?”But no one ever put them wiseThat Rex had diabetes.

One of my greatest joys in the last couple of years was finally getting rid of the old, cat-damaged arm chairs and sofa we originally inherited from my grandparents-in-law about 30 years ago and replacing it with beautiful new arts and crafts furniture. Made the whole room look better. Of course, we still have the cats, so when there’s no company over, the chairs keep on their slip covers (nice cloth ones) to keep the kitties’ claws at bay.
