I was weaned on Navy coffee. If I wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep, I’ll fix myself a cup of coffee, read for a while, and then toddle back to bed.

My parents had to do that with their dog. Flossie also enjoyed going to the carwash, and they had to spell that, as well. Of course, the great mutt would dash from one side of the car to the other and make a mess of the inside of the windows, so they’d have to clean that up when they got home.

We used to have a cat that would swipe your broccoli. Daisy would get up on the chair next to yours, reach out a paw, and v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y pull your plate closer to herself. She’d snag your broccoli and then run like the wind.

We let her get away with is because it was so cute.

We did, but I felt it necessary to explain why we preferred to use a laundromat. If the washer in the condo goes up, we probably won’t bother to replace it.

We are both in our mid-80s. The cost of a washer is more than we spend in two years. We are on a well and septic system; while we have plenty of water, but our septic can’t handle the grey water and we flat-out refuse to let it seep into the stream or the pond.

We live about 6 miles from the laundromat. It is in the same shopping center as a grocery store and – better yet! -across the street from a library. Multitasking at its best! Usually, we zip over to the library while the clothes are washing and then read while they dry.

The laundromat we use has 50 cents off on Tuesday and Wednesday, plus every tenth load is free, and they encourage you to use the BIG washers for your freebie. Got a bedspread? Bring it in then and save $7.

I told Hubby I didn’t know being married could be so much fun!

We had three daughters and raised my husband’s nephew. I could do all eight loads of wash at the same time, send the troops down to the grocery store, and have everything washed, folded, or hung up, plus groceries for the week, in just over two hours, door-to-door.

Hubby is part Cherokee. When he tried to grow a beard, he looked as if the moths had been at him. (Members of the First Nations do not usually have facial hair.)
