….I don’t think so: yesterday he did say “Hello”……..and anyway “Howdy Doody” got started because “Buffalo” Bob, on his New Yawk radio station, started a character called Elmer…….Bob did the voice-overs for characters so’s it would sound like said character was actually there in Bob’s presence. Clever, yes? “Elmer” wouldn’t ever say, “Hello” or “Goodbye”…He just always would say “Howdy Doody!” Guy didn’t look like the later T.V. Howdy, either. Looked a little bit like Zippy The Pinhead (hey, we’re NOT making this up!)

…maybe “daddy” and D.T., based on whatever this “Bob Smith” (Buffalo? The way THIS strip’s goin’, even THAT would not surprise me…) has in that plain brown paper bag, plan to “drop Annie back off at the ’ol orphanage” to do…..a ’lil detective work?

….I don’t think the “defecation” thing is completely true…..she just wasn’t up to the job, is all….(BTW: we better watch what we say here about, well, certain folks! The comment section for THIS strip might end up getting pulled, too!!)………

…again, the “it’s a new time, a new day” version of the long-lived “Alley Oop” strip is actually picking up some speed because the current “team” is keeping the action in ancient Moo……..where the original strip was centered…….

…“happily dancing waifs”….hoo boy, THAT a good one!! btw, in a certain newspaper which I still read, in the city of its birth……..there was once a re- run of Annie strips, after Mr. Gray’s passing (including the Sunday runs, then) starting in 1936……alas, this only lasted slightly less than a year………..
