    Naturally I had to check it out. Google does indeed calculate the route you said (in about 15 seconds). It adds notes in yellow: 1. This route has tolls.2. This route includes a ferry.3. This route crosses through multiple countries.4. Your destination is in a different time zone.What is amazing is that only 25 or 30 years ago it would have taken an experienced traveler weeks to plan this route.
