Longer games = more time to sell commercials. The networks are dancing a fine line. If games are too long, viewers will tune out, but if they’re too short, networks lose ad revenue — and that ad revenue is what keeps them alive.
Thanks. I used to collect lines from Chandler because he had a way of setting up a whole scene in one sentence. “The room was not a room to uplift the soul.”
Came here to say this! The resemblance is strong.
I remember a line from Raymond Chandler: “The city was darker with something more than night.”
I think the word “grok” has somewhat entered the general lexicon. It’s been around since the book was published in the late ‘60s, iirc. I’ve occasionally heard non SF/F fans use the term, so it’s not just us geeks who know it.
I’ve heard/read it on rare occasions since the mid-70s. Probably half those times were on this strip.
“Grok” and “Star Wars” in the same panel? Talk about crossing the streams!
I subscribed to Omni magazine the first few years it was published. Dropped it when they started focusing on stuff like UFOs, cryptids, and so forth.
