All I remember is having to wear gloves and girdle to church and clothes that were itchy and uncomfortable, not to mention hats that were continually falling off. No wonder we loved the hippy laid back dress so much!

Hootnanny’s were also a cultural phenomenon and lots of teens would get together and sing songs. A popular one was “filksinging” because fantasy songs were very popular, like Bilbo (from the book not the movie) I think Leonard Nimoy even made a record of it! I remember going to lots of them. By the time they got to tv and “the man” got his hands on them, they were on the way out.

Ah, now all those odd jokes about bananas back in the 60’s make sense. I was a full out hippy back then, except I didn’t do the drugs – didn’t need them. But I loved being able to dress comfortably (remember the girdles and polyester suits from the 50’s? ugh!) and express my creativity. I loved hootnanny’s (remember those) and later concerts with bands that knew what a melody was.

Until you’re near 80 and it makes you laugh cause it is so true. Not to the extent of taking a lunchtime, but things take twice as long now as they did in my 30’s! So one laughs. We’re all in this aging game together, if you’re lucky.

I’ve discovered a way to read BCN 2x per day. I normally read it with my first cup of coffee in the morning, which is generally around 6 a.m. The thing is I was missing a lot of posts people who read later in the afternoon had made. So now, before I read the daily post I go back to the previous day, scroll down about 1/2 way and continue with the posts made after I read at 6 a.m. I might still miss some, but not many!I’m a genius!

Re: The comic anti bigotry controversy: I read this morning that Washington Post had dropped Dilbert and when asked how many papers would continue to carry the strip, the spokesperson said “Zero” Yay for Georgia and all who called this bigot on his c**p.
