Making it a binary choice is a logical fallacy. And to quote the Obi-wan, “Only a Sith deals in absolutes.”You can have both, just not at the exact same time. I think a solid argument can be made that safety of the child supersedes the parent being informed immediately. A process would need to be created for handling the situation, but we already have child services processes that straddle a similar line…so precedent exists in our society.

The definition is for criteria to grant access to shelter under this specific law, not to provide to medical care to minors. You are exaggerating its scope and effect.

    Thank you for the citation.

Ok, I have read the bill 5599. From reading the bill, your statement was hyperbolic. I understand your concerns, but your comment was a misstatement about the content of the law.

If only all parents wouldn’t hurt their children if they are trans or any type of LGBT. When I have volunteered at LGBT centers, I met plenty of kids who were beaten and/or thrown out of the house. And I won’t go into my own experience.

I agree you do have a right to know. But parents have an extremely unequal power balance vis-a-vis their children. The potential and reality of abuse that happens is terrible to consider and experience. Something too often not considered by many who oppose these types of laws.

The son had managed “medical conversion” without the parents knowing? I assume you are being hyperbolic.

Yup, you don’t know anything about trans people. Should have stopped with that sentence.

Maybe we should have kids write out their wills in elementary school. And have them make video goodbye’s to family members in case they don’t make it home alive from school or hanging out with friends. If we aren’t going to do anything about gun violence, seems we should better prepare kids for those outcomes.

Where would political commentary be without false equivalence and people lacking the intelligence to recognize it?

I don’t think the discipline exists to get rid of the deficit right now. Instead of blaming each other for that, lets own the truth. I think start with a goal of zero growth to the deficit for a couple years. It seems more realistic, and it could be the proof of concept for something more ambitious, like actually reducing the deficit. Eliminating the deficit will be a huge sacrifice in both spending and increased taxes. It’s too much to do all at once. I have heard a saying that when the roast is too big to eat, cut it into smaller pieces. I think the deficit is big problem the never gets solved because people set unrealistic goals of trying to solve too big a piece all at once. Let’s cut it up into smaller pieces that we can handle. Of course, politicians will never do that….let the finger pointing continue!!!

You are correct, but it kind of reminds me of a quote I read once "“In the South, there was a gentle tradition of ’it’s only a crime if you get caught doing it.’ Sometimes it was known as the Eleventh Commandment. Thou shall not get caught.” Trump has unquestionably proven to be unethical and amoral, but while those traits may lead to committing crimes, that state of being is not a crime itself.
