   ah – not true. Peasant refers to birth status, not wealth (ie no royal blood). There were rich peasants, ie the composer Handel. That said, most peasants were poor.

   Remember, when arriving somewhere out of town, having to make a person to person call to a fictitious person back home to let your parents know you arrived safely but not have to pay for the call. (and long distance calls were expensive)

   Shag carpet! Oh the memories! (mostly bad) My wife was sewing a lot back then and had a bad habit of dropping straight pins in the carpet! (like everyone else, we now have only hardwood and tile, much better)

   i went to camp for a week once as a kid in the “50s”. up in the then beautiful mountains of California, I really enjoyed it and wish i could have gone again.

   we haven’t taken the local paper for years. Down here (South Florida) it is $1200/yr delivered. it has only gotten smaller over the years, with less and less local news (you can get the rest on the internet).

    I love it when we get to see some of Watterson’s artistic talent
