I think part of it is that we don’t know exactly /what/ Max’s problem is yet, and if that’s different from what his moms think it is. Is it not liking the attention? Is he afraid that these are romantic feelings that he doesn’t return or doesn’t feel ready to deal with (they are only 9/10ish, after all,) or just doesn’t want their friendship to change?Hopefully next strip will clear things up. Regarding the other thing… Max’s moms seem like they’re doing a fine job. I /do/ think there’s something to be said for having a wide variety of positive adult figures in a child’s life. It’s not about filling a specific “Dad” role (the precise relationship doesn’t really matter: uncle, friend’s dad, family friend, whatever,) it’s just another example for the kid to draw on as they shape their own identity.

I hope it’s more “I’m not used to people saying such nice things about me” blushing, but I suspect it’s along the lines of “can a hole please open up under me right now so I can fall in it and die”

Not a final boss, but the “Demi-Fiend” bonus boss of Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga is a right nightmare. If you come in with the wrong skills equipped (elemental immunities and so on; the kinds of things you’d probably have towards the end of the game) he’ll just straight-up kill you immediately.

You only fight Sans if playing the Genocide route, which involves murdering EVERY monster in EVERY area. It’s very deliberately not fun to do.

I like that Phoebe’s radar for unicorn BS has been honed to the point that she can detect it coming from a mile away and attempt to steer clear.

I remember quite a few bald (or very nearly) Black kids in elementary school. Just a style, I guess. I don’t remember anyone making a big deal of it.

How unreasonable are Miles’ parents? Honestly, this is a self-solving problem.

Phoebe has blank, dead eyes confirmed? Did this comic suddenly get way darker?

Marigold seems to be genuinely worried that she has given offense here, from her expression to the way her apology is less “fancy” than her regular speech (she omits the “I am” before “sorry”; she rarely leaves out or contracts words.)I find that sort of charming. Sure, she’s openly and unashamedly egotistical and self-centered but the idea that she might have actually hurt Max’s feelings honestly bothers her.
