The American natives didn’t live in an age of wood and stone. They had developed sophisticated techniques to best survive in their environment, and quite advanced political and governance systems (to the point that they were one of the inspirations of the Fouding Fathers when they wrote the Constituion of the USA). And further South, mesoAmerican and precolombian civilizations were quite advanced, and not that far behind Europeans. The only real superiority of the latter was in weapons’ technology (and the bugs they unwittingly released on vulnerable populations).
