I was fortunate enough to be able to trek in the Himalaya. My cousin, an experienced mountain climber, asked me to go on two treks with her. The first was Sara Umga La (India) in 1985. We stopped at Malana on the way, where we were “untouchables.” I understand Malana has changed quite a bit in the past 38 or so years since we were there! In 1999, we climbed to Annapurna Base Camp (Nepal), with a stop at Machapuchare Base Camp on the way. Both treks were wonderful.
Our son climbed Mount Whitney in 2016. On the way down from the summit, he passed a guy who was on his way to the top. Our son got back well before sunset, having planned ahead. The guy he passed on the mountain tried to climb down in the dark, lost the trail and fell to his death. It shook our son up when he heard about it. Mountain climbing is generally safe, but you have to be careful!
Malibu Ed needs to realize that many of the people who he insults are going through hard times in their lives, and need encouragement rather than insults. It’s part of the human condition to be dealing with problems. A kind word can mean a lot to someone in that situation. Ed may need the same thing himself someday.
I wish I could post pictures here!
