I’m also from the midwest. Wells and septic tanks aren’t UNUSUAL in the part I’m from and electric lines can be strung for a pretty far distance. It is, of course, an initial expense. If I were considering that kind of move I’d be concerned with internet connectivity as well.
On the plus side, they can create a home that’s exactly what they want/need, including amenities to help them age in place.
Do you listen to cassette tapes, too? I’m peripherally involved in the indie comics scene and there’s been some overlap in get togethers with indie musicians putting out music on cassette. It makes me want to buy a tape deck.
That’s sometimes considered the same thing and sometimes called dyscalculia. If you suspect you have it then you might want to consider talking to a doctor about getting screened for it – there’s no set screening, the parameters haven’t been firmly established, but it’s often comorbid with dyslexia. It might be worth pursuing this if you want accommodations/support from school or work.
There are screening tests like there are for other learning disabilities, autism, and adhd. Both times I took my kid to be screened for autism they screened for adhd, anxiety & some other mental health issues, and learning disabilities. (There’s a specific reason my kid was screened twice, it wasn’t just for funsies or to “prove” something.)
Dyslexia is a specific thing. Some people refer to it as a learning difference and not a disability. Support for dyslexia has changed over time – I’m pleasantly surprised that Kevin was screened at all, that his mom knew that there was an issue and took steps. I’m curious as to how the teachers/school will react.
As with other learning disabilities, autism, and adhd, people with dyslexia can be very bright or have different levels of intellectual impairment. Kevin seems pretty bright, and curious about the stuff that interests him.
Ah yes, “political correctness,” aka “not using slurs.” I’m awfully sorry that “purposely harming people” is no longer quite as socially acceptable as it once was, this obviously has affected you deeply.
