Maybe Phil is left-handed (like Luann and Greg) and sews his own clothing (like Gunther).

Since Luann runs with a lead time of something like 6 or 8 weeks, it would be hard for Greg to do anything in the immediate aftermath of any unexpected real-world event. When the Covid-19 hit, there was a lot of hope that lockdowns and masks might soon squelch the outbreak, so (as I understand it) G&K were reluctant to write anything about it into Luann because they weren’t sure whether it would be topical by the time the strips ran. Then, by the time it became clear we were in for a long slog, they decided readers might appreciate a Covid-free Luanniverse as a brief escape from the real-world situation.

Of course the big development in the strip in the aftermath of 9/11 was Brad deciding, early in 2002, to become a firefighter.

When Brad donated blood, he got a smack afterwards [1997/04/11].

While this is, as far as I’m aware, only the second time the strip has addressed blood donation, it has touched on various other topics around public service, giving, and volunteering over the years: CPR classes; pet adoption; Bernice raising Royce for Canine Companions for Independence; Delta, Luann, and Bernice “adopting” a street; Luann and her classmates visiting wounded veterans at a hospital; Luann and Gunther volunteering at the library (where Luann later had a paid part-time job); Brad’s and Toni’s fire stations competing in a toy drive and in a food drive; etc.

I’ll go out on a limb and predict that Luann will donate blood. And most likely Greg will include a public service announcement, as he did in the arc about Brad donating blood [1997/04/07–12].

I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion that Brad and Toni eventually will adopt Shannon. As I’ve said before, the only ways I see that happening are (1) if Jonah dies or has a seriously debilitating illness or injury, or (2) if Jonah voluntarily and permanently gives up custody of her, essentially abandoning her. And I think either of those events would be devastating for Shannon. I do think it likely that B&T eventually will have a child of their own, though I wouldn’t make bets about how soon.

I think the glove we see in panel 4 is the same one he put on between panels 3 and 4 of yesterday’s comic. Of course that would mean that in today’s panel 1 he could be contaminating “Mrs.” Horner’s cabinet with germs from Luann’s hand. I’ll leave it to you to decide whether you think that’s something he should worry about.

    …-she’s far too squeamish.

When Luann was 13, she wasn’t too squeamish to babysit Lindy Lewis, who still wore diapers at the time.

If they end up goin’ on a date, he could become her new glove interest.

“Mrs.” Horner mentioned her kidney trouble in the strip of 2024/06/14. Luann was visiting her at Sleepy Creek, evidently for the first time after the fainting incident in class, and had just inquired about her health. So, no, “Mrs.” H. didn’t just drop the news in casual conversation.
