We aren’t going to have a week of missing sunglasses.
I’m speculating that that’s exactly what she did (to keep it from rattling around loose in the packing box and maybe getting scratched) and then forgot about doing. I just said so in a reply to KEA above, but now I see that you beat me to the idea by about five hours. Or maybe the ring simply happened to spill out of the box with the rug—or even some other box—while Stef was unpacking, and it landed on the floor where Stef dropped the rug over it without noticing. Of course we may never learn the details unless they play a part in the story line (Kip to Stef: You wrapped my ring in a floor mat?).
Yeah. This would be about the point where Stef remembers how she packed up the ring “protectively” wrapped in that little bedside rug/mat.
You seem to have forgotten that after all the stuff from the dorm got moved in, Tiffany started advertising the “waremanse” and got a bunch of other customers, one of whom might have had the jewelry box. [Or perhaps you didn’t forget and you just enjoy bashing G&K on any pretext.]
Meanwhile, I’m wondering whether Tiff is really feeling “… relieved” or whether she’s starting to worry that other customers might show up and complain of missing items with more monetary value than Kip’s high-school class ring.
Here’s Les taking money from a table and pocketing it.
We aren’t shown definitely (at least in this strip) that he has taken Ox’s tip and intends to keep it (without telling Ox, of course). But if you look at the comments, you’ll see that a fair number of people got that impression.
Here’s Les supposedly collecting donations for the youth program:
And here he is under-reporting the amount collected:
I think you’ve got the timing wrong. We saw Stef with at least some of her stuff already boxed up on June 1. On June 3, we saw Kip and other dorm residents at Tiff’s door with stuff to store. Stef could have been doing more packing and Kip could have spotted the ring in an open box. Or Stef might even have asked Kip to help he finish boxing stuff up. So Kip could well have had a chance to grab the ring, either (as several people have suggested) in anticipation of announcing a break-up or (as Csaw Backnforth suggested) to surprise her by getting it cleaned and polished (or maybe resized for her finger or re-set with her birthstone …). I’m not saying that Kip definitely did take the ring, just that it’s entirely plausible for him to have had the opportunity.
And remember this?
But let’s not get yapping too much about his angst in the month or so of strips after that (starting with getting tongue-tied when Rosa thanked him).
To be brave is to behave
bravely when your heart is faint.
So you can be really brave
only when you really ain’t.
—Piet Hein, “BRAVE”
Maybe Dez could consult her destiny deck about the situation—and get an answer that no one can make sense of until after the ring is found.
Here’s Nancy coming to Tiffany’s aid:
And here’s Luann trying to come to Tiffany’s aid:
And while it’s true that Gunther was the one who did the most to cheer Tiff up back in 2017, let’s not forget who thought of sending him:
I like that Farrell eye roll in panel 3. (Btw, try saying “Farrell eye roll” three times quickly.)
