We always had a real tree when I was a child, but the year those aluminum trees came out, my mother wanted one, and my father caved and got her one. She loved it; I hated it! And when I had kids, I made sure we always had a real tree.

The daycare where Newton has a craft program for the dogs—they have plaster shapes for different seasons that they put drops of paint on and put the shape in a ziplock bag. Then they spread a bit of peanut butter on the bag and the dogs lick the peanut butter off, spreading the paint. The finished art is removed and dried—very unique! Newton has done a spring flower and a fall pumpkin.
