I think this tall tale was cooked up to demonstrate that the Israelite God was stronger than the Kingdom of Egypt, because they were the big dogs in that part of the world. There’s no history that demonstrates that any of these events actually took place. The books of Exodus and Deutoronomy are full of horror stories, but then like Lewis Black himself noted, these people were savages. Seven hairs away from being baboons is the way he put it. He contends that these laws and tall tales were used to keep the people in line.

I’ve read it, how this God of the Israelites hardened the heart of Pharoah and then turned around and killed all the firstborn. Yea, no. I don’t believe for a second this really happened, but the tale itself is enough to make you queasy.

Fortunately where I live, we can still enjoy the sounds of nature. We have mockingbird that nest in our fence line every year, and the swallows love the birdhouses out back. Lots of frogs too.
