You are a fiction writer, not a trained scientist like I am, I take it?
Regarding Bill Nye, being a good entertainer does not make you a good scientist. And yes, I know about Bill’s mechanical engineering degree, and how he learned about how to fool people with pseudo-science using ENTERTAINMENT, from attending a Carl Sagan astronomy class. BTW, among my other degrees, I have an EE degree.
Wasn’t the average number of books read per year at Alcatraz around 87.5?
There are of course exceptions, but both the police and military prefer to hire people who do not question authority. From my psy training, Myers-Briggs tests would peg those sorts of people as sensing (not intuitive), thinking (not feeling), and judging (not perceiving). New hires are generally (but not always) introverts (not extroverts). Because I am an extrovert-intuitive-perceiver, I have always very much questioned authority. I am lucky that I did not accept my commission after graduating from Marine OCS, since I am sure I would have eventually gotten in trouble with questioning my leader’s decisions. I now work as a civilian for the DoD, and I have to bite my tongue to not say something about many of the stupid things managers say and do. Unfortunately, I have spoken up a few times, and got punitive treatment for it.
My first engineering job was to ride aboard an aircraft carrier, and provide 24/7 support for the FA-18 Jet automated unit test station. They went on 6-month tours. Since I was a keyboardist, I wanted to take at least a small electric keyboard. However, I was told that a carrier is like a city of 5000 people, and that my keyboard WILL FOR SURE be stolen. That was enough to talk me out of that particular job, and support the FA-18 jet in a different way. I did hear that such carriers, when they did stop in ports, usually stopped in very exotic places, places that tourists normally did not go, so I did regret that part of not taking the job.
Hmm, I’ve never been good at grammar, but it does not look like “life” is full of “ifs.” It just has one “if.” Tempted to get theological about what that one “if” would be. But as a Christian, I could let the reader ponder what that one “if” would be.
I recall the constant claim back during the time the first couple of Star Wars movies came out, that George Lucas had already written the scripts for NINE Star Wars movies, but the ones not made into movies yet were closely guarded. I SUPPOSE one could argue that maybe Harrison Ford could have been replaced by another actor. However, if what I heard was true, then the Hans Solo character was definitely returning. I currently believe Lucas was making it all up as he went along, especially in light of how the latest Star Wars movies match the massive “women’s empowerment” attitude in most TV shows and movies today.
Careful! Don’t include any stage hands in the pics!
Yes, there are fallible pastors. But there are also false Christians, who are wolves in sheep’s clothing. I’ve had to deal with a lot of them at different churches. They know how to say the right things, but then secretly spread false doctrine. Book of Jude and 2 Peter 2 warns us about such people. Most Christians, since they don’t read their Bible, are easily fooled by these wolves, who are practically in charge of most TV churches and megachurches, and are trying to get control of every Bible-believing church.
Sounds like you were calling yourself from the past or from the future. :-) Unfortunately, there is a way using VPN technology to pretend you are calling from practically any number. I’ve also had fake emails sent to me using my own email address.
