    People are ghoulish in many insinuations. In my youth I discovered this when a horrid traffic accident had people come in droves to gape at the injured. I agree with you Keno21; just appalling; parents set the standards of behavior by admonishing children not to gape at such forlorn situations. Sounds like you had a good upbringing.
