The idea of an age limit for officeholders was proposed at the constitutional convention in 1787, but the presence of Benjamin Franklin made it inevitable that it would fail. It would require a constitutional amendment to add that today, and you’d certainly never get it ratified now. Adding any of the requirements you propose would mean amending the constitution, which is (intentionally) extremely difficult to do.

Yeah, I’d like to know how ‘literacy’ was defined for the purposes of the surveys that produced any of those figures. There’s certainly a difference between the ‘literacy’ that means a person can read his name and the ‘literacy’ that means they can get a decent score on an college admissions text.

She means the solstice, around June 22, which weathermen on teevee call the ‘first day of summer.’ Which raises the question of how Midsummer Day is also right around June 22.

Where I grew up (a farming community), teachers taught kids that fall begain September first, Winter began December first, and so for four three-month seasons. That makes far more sense that the solstices and equinoces with respect to weather.

Clarification: by definition, a “peace prize” should never go to any politician. Beleive me, I don’t disapprove of its having gone to Gore and Obama because I’m some #$%&$#@ republican.

It was worse than the irony of giving the prize to Kissinger. That’s when I stopped taking the Nobel committe’s judgment seriously. It of course got worse with the silliness of giving it to Al Gore and the brutal absurdity of giving it to Obama.

sometimes I wonder what it’s like to be as privileged as you are. But I guess you’ve never wondered what it would be like NOT to be as priviliged as you are.

You are mistaken. It’s a popular slam, based on DNC propaganda, but the greens have never affected the final outcome a presidential election. I know it’s painful for you, but it’s better to accept the fact that the person who messed up Mrs. Clinton’s chances was Mrs. Clinton.

“Ridiculous” in what way? Saying the two main parties are equal is simple truth. They are both populated by politicians (i.e., not people). They both accept money from wealthy donors and then do the bidding of those donors to the exclusion of any public interest. They’re both run by the governing class for the benefit of the ruling class. Why is it ridiculous to say so?

Nevertheless, the Viking craft is properly called a longship. not a longboat. As I said, we use the word “longboat” to denote a different kind of craft.
