“He said he can’t find a place cheap enough to rent” is a bit too close to the knuckle. My sons had real trouble trying to find anything they could afford that wasn’t also a roach infested, primeval swamp with high crime rate.
I guess i’m a mean old man. Told both the boys they had one year after the finished post secondary education that they would need to move out. the youngest got a trade and has never needed to come home and the oldest got in a snit and moved all the way out to Vancouver and then moved back when he realized he was too far from friends, most of his family but has also attained proper training and is now a chef. Both know they can come home if need be but are doing well.
Stop drinking overpriced coffee and sell your car, the one you rarely use. That’ll fatten your coinpurse. Millenials are indulged too much. Imagine thee the generation during the 1930s. People skipped meals so their kids could eat, and even then, it wasn’t enough. If your new place is bug infested, do what everyone else does in that situation—instead of just running back home.
3 of my friends in their mid 40s moved back home to mom and dad – divorce can be brutal. The situation was only temporary, they were soon back on their feet.

The son of some friends is still staying with them in his thirties. But at least he works full time and shares expenses. Whatever works.

Ralph caught it. The kid could pay them a little rent or he’s a bum freighter in the Rebel Alliance and the New Republic.
