My 35 year old son goes barefoot all the time but his sons have to wear shoes. Personally, once stung, twice shy- meaning step on one bee and you’ll never go shoeless again.
59 and just came in from rolling up the water hose in the back yard bare foot. Stepping on bees is a clover thing, not much of that here in the Texas Gulf coast. in my yard. Now those Chinese Tallow hulls are not nice but they are seasonal. Bare foot is the way to go at home.
I go barefoot most of the time (I’m 79). Started in childhood and has continued. When I was little the bottom of my feet were so tough that stepping on a sand bur or bee didn’t bother me. I liked school except for having to wear shoes.
I LOVE barefooting and no longer can; knees just won’t allow it. Stupid knees.
But TENTING!!! I think it’s more fun when you have to improvise — blankets over the clothesline, picnic table on its side with some thing over it….whatever, and a whole new world is created that is all your own. Happy summer, R & R!!
When we could find some extra lumber, I and other boys in the neighborhood, built forts! Never could get any of the neighborhood girls to join us in the fort though. I wonder why?
My Rules for going barefoot in Summer are pretty simple:
1. Barefoot when possible, sandals (or Vibrams) when necessary. (I live in a rather large Midwestern city, so there are times when footwear is de rigueur.)
2. The price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance. (In other words, watch where you step!)

You boys are incredibly clever. What’s a summer without a backyard tent outing? Have fun, kids

And Brian, thank you one more time for bringing back the smells, the feel, the limitless universe of summers as a kid.

Do they even sell tents like that anymore? And btw, there are two tents set up in my yard right now. Guys where we’ve been sleeping.
