Say, Robert Ariail, these ‘terrorists’, they received a fair trial to be labelled as such? Or are they ‘enemy combatants’? This negotiating with the Taliban, in their country, which your country invaded a few years back, they are all terrorists? What is their definition of American/Coalition forces in Afghanistan? Your country’s support of a corrupt government in Kabul should be called what exactly? Or, these guys in Gitmo, if they were Taliban, and captured in Afghanistan, were they POWs? How long were they in Guantanamo, that camp representing the auge of your country’s doctrine of one’s right to a fair trial, an essential right in all countries respecting the rule of law?
Tch, dunno, Robert, but from over here, it doesn’t look pretty.Just a couple of weeks ago I was complimenting your cartoon. Not today.
When George III of England called we colonists traitors who he could kill because we resisted THAT empire, we were the good guys (even our friends from France who helped us). When George III of Washington D.C. went to a couple of countries resisting OUR (his?) empire, they were all terrorists for defending THEIR nations and homelands. Interesting.
I read an article in a military magazine about ten years ago, but I haven’t read anything else about it since. As the war in Europe ended in May 1945, there were thousands of American POWs in German camps which were over-run by the Red Army. And, there were many Russian prisoners in the West, including many who fought against Stalin & his regime. Stalin DEMANDED their return, and Roosevelt & Churchill complied, but Uncle Joe never returned to us our men. Roosevelt and the military were so afraid of the predicted casualties in invading the Japanese Islands that they were prepared to sacrifice anything to get the Russians to declare war on Japan. If this is true, it is the greatest stain on the White house of all time!
That would not be, the choice was made and that time line is no more.Republicans supported negotiating for his release up until he was released. Then they complained about it. This isn’t about negotiating with terrorists or a POW/deserter. This is about Republicans scoring political points against Obama.
“Walked off”, like “W” from the National Guard; Sarah Palin half way through her term; “W” again, leaving the pursuit of bin Laden to get even with Saddam??
It appears this action may well make it easier and a few degrees safer for our troops as we LEAVE THIS WAR BEHIND! We need to totally get out of Afghanistan and Iraq, even if our original intent WAS to maintain permanent forward bases in those countries, to watch Iran (for Israel’s benefit?).
Yes, maybe we do need to “walk off”, and indeed leave these countries to their own devices, like freedom to live THEIR way.
dtroutma says “Walked off”, like “W” from the National Guard"did you not hear dan rathers lost his job for telling this lie// the daily mail reported that its pentagon contact told it that this is how bho is going to empty gitmo
wbr: wake up! Only two documents, of many submitted and proven true, along with testimony of his fellow officers, definitely cleared up that “W” left, and only because of political clout was his desertion “forgiven” as he left short of his enlistment period, among other “problems”. BTW, my best friend was also in the Texas National Guard at the same time, served his full time, to avoid going to ’Nam like me, and as a confirmed Texan and right-winger his whole life, he too said “W” clearly deserted under the rules HE had to abide.
My biggest disappointments have been 1. Nancy Pelosi saying “impeachment is off the table” when she got the House, and 2. Obama not closing Gitmo his first day, sending the folks ether home if innocent, or to “super max” prisons in the stats if a positive threat. In both cases, our courageous reich wingers would have gone totally ballistic, well actually they did anyway.
Good Ol’ Ollie North was on a local radio station today criticizing Obama while saying the US “NEVER” negotiated with terrorists. Just like his conviction overturned by a technicality, we never “negotiated” with Iran, just traded arms for hostages through a third party!
^“old”, That was well known, and proven true at the time. We who served long ago deserved better, and those, like my son, who served under “W”, THE WORST CIC and POTUS in the history of the United States deserved very, very, much better, and that includes my son, now a disabled vet, and my friends lost to his stupidity, lies, and yes, desertion from the Guard, and his elected duties.

If Obama hadn’t negotiated for Bergdahl’s release, this cartoon would be instead criticizing Obama for not negotiating for his release.

I love that right wingnuts forget that St Ronnie traded guns to terrorists to fund other terrorists. Nice selective memory they have
