I’m absolutely certain money changed hands so principles could be thrown away so easily. The only good that comes out of it is that poor excuse for a human Greg Norman appears to have been offloaded.
“Saudi Arabia, I get along with all of them. They buy apartments from me. They spend $40 million, $50 million. Am I supposed to dislike them? I like them very much.”
I’ve played golf for more than 3 decades. Big fan. But I’m done with the PGA Tour because of this. With the NCAA, LPGA, and the majors, there are plenty of other options that don’t involve getting into bed with murderers.
I remember that back in the 80s a person named Khashoggi was one of the world’s major arms dealers. The governor of the German state of Schleswig-Holstein at the time apparently committed suicide after meeting with him. A conservative, of course.
It might be worth noting, once again, that the ban on airflights over America right after 9-11 was ALMOST total!
Almost, you say?
Yes, almost – the Bush administration allowed TWO planes in the air, that day, after the Towers fell – two planes carrying citizens of Saudi Arabia back home that were representing Saudia Arabia here in the U.S. – they were designated as “humanitarian flights” and were cleared by very high within the Bush administration…
Golf is the only “sport” that I can think of where you hit the ball and then have to go get it. So Then there are golf carts and caddies so you don’t have to walk or carry clubs.
There are some in the PGA that are NOT happy with this. Sadly, they are players, not the ones that control the organization.
Just glad President Biden stayed away from the sword dance, bowing to the King of Saudi to receive a medal from him, and doing that weird hands on the glowing orb thing.
Based upon the tone of most of the comments, it seems safe to assume that the vast majority of commenters have done their best to avoid funding countries such as Saudi Arabia by minimizing the purchase of their chief export. After all, it’d be quite hypocritical for those who have allowed themselves to be car-dependent to lambast the PGA.
IBM supplied punch card machines to the Nazis to track Jews and everyone else in Nazi Germany. Sound familiar? Today, we all voluntarily provide the same information and help them track us with Alexis, Siri, our phones etc. If you aren’t willing to at least admit that morals being auctioned to the highest bidder is nothing new you need to read more books and get off the Internet. Personally I think the “merger” is a knife in the back to the players who remained loyal to the PGA. But is it any different than the billions of dollars made off college sports while tuition skyrockets?
One thing I find interesting is that almost to a person, the far-right cartoonists are critical of this “deal”, and they’re illustrating the same complaints as the “liberal” cartoonists. A few are silent, but I haven’t seen even one cartoon that expresses support.
What’s more, in spite of the generally perceived lock step among right-leaning cartoonists, I don’t recall ever before seeing this many of them being motivated to Illustrate the same single issue in so short a timeframe.

It’s the Biden way. As long as there’s a bag of money with 10% for the big guy, anything goes.

Once again, as always, greed triumphs of decency. Now lets see what effect this has on the TV audience for golf(hint: it won’t have any).

One part of the merger gives the PGA control over holes 1 – 8 and 12 – 18. The Saudis get 9-11
