June 8th 1972 Kim Phuc was Napalm by Her own military in her own Village . This led to a worldwide reduction in the use of “fire weapons” that is unless you really need them. # everythingistrumpsfault
The “official Viet Nam era” is ‘61-75 with VA. It actually started at Dien Ben Phu in ‘54 when we took over from the French (Foreign legion actually) who kept their oil and latex plantation operations going while we did the fighting.
So even if you only go for 13 years to kill this many Americans, Bonespurs and his idiot administration killed more AMERICANS, in four months.
BTW: napalm is a terror weapon I got way too familiar with, and way too close to. And I also have many problems related to Agent Orange, but haven’t suffered nearly as much as our ALLIES in Viet Nam, let alone our “enemies”.
Which, my PTSD has gotten worse under Bonespurs constant screwups, lies, deregulation, and other horrors he’s brought on my country, and others. This toon brings back many memories of horrors past, none as great as Bonespurs present.
I am struggling with my reaction to the tone of the comments. I didn’t want to “like” this, because it is so horrific. That photo, probably more than any other, IS the war to me. I respect and thank those of you who served. I weep at the suffering and death, then and now.
I’m not sure that it’s a fair comparison. US deaths in Vietnam were mostly those of US soldiers sent to a foreign country in an effort (later shown by the Pentagon Papers to be known to be futile) to impose American hegemony and show the Soviet Union how serious the US was, by taking one side in a civil war; coronavirus deaths in the US are of civilian minding their own business and trying to stay alive. A better comparison would be Vietnamese civilian deaths, which (according to one source I found, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam_War_casualties ), are estimated to be about 627,000 (North and South combined; estimates vary widely).
Lyndon Johnson told the nationHave no fear of escalationI am trying everyone to pleaseThough it isn’t really warWe’re sending fifty thousand moreTo help save Vietnam from the Vietnamese —Tom Paxton
(Not that this mitigates or excuses Trump’s coronavirus deaths…)
The number of American dead from corona virus not only passed the number of American casualties in Vietnam, but also did so right before the fiftieth anniversary of the “incursion” into Cambodia. It was the second turning point after the Tet Offensive in 1968 which affected the course of that “war”. It took Kent State and the nationwide student strike to push for an end to the war. Have we also come to the push against this “war”?
If you want another comparison? In all of WW II there were only six fatalities to civilians in the mainland US. Yep that came from asia as well from a Japanese balloon bomb meant to start forest fires.
Hmm, but Asia? The strain in New York came from Europe. Much as Bonespurs wants to blame China, hmm how many trademarks have they granted Ivanka? How about some more details on those connections?
Last night (May 3), in an interview on Fox News, Disaster Pumpkin compared himself to Abraham Lincoln. Well, that’s fair enuf, as far as it goes. Any 2 things — or any 2 people — can be compared. Generally what happens is that apples and oranges are both fruits, but one is red and the other is, um, orange. So …. some similarities and some differences. Or, if you’re feeling judgey, sometimes X is better than Y, sometimes it’s worse.
In this case, I’d really like to see a list of all the human qualities a person could possibly have in which the Velveeta Voldemort could possibly be deemed more impressive than Abraham Lincoln. (I guess we can start with total sheer body mass, but where do we go from there?)
A dinky button to the first person who realizes this cartoon is not about Americans suffering casualties. Unfair to Vietnam vets and unfair to the of the persons portrayed. We get the meaning, but you depicted it all wrong.
