Sure.. and that is why the republicans are deathly afraid of a fair election and doing their very best to ensure it won’t happen. In fact one wonders why even bother having elections if the winner is going to be declared no matter the count.
The 2nd amendment is only one sentence long and most people seem think half of it doesn’t matter. They just disagree about which half to ignore. Democrats need to focus on what can be done with a conservative super-majority in the supreme court. Anything that gets passed will immediately be challenged in court and enforcement will likely be stayed until all appeals are exhausted. Expanding background checks and raising the minimum age for some firearms is probably doable. regulating private party transfers might be doable but it won’t be easy. Banning the most popular rifles in the country IMHO ain’t gonna happen until the supreme court membership changes considerably.
A quote from an op-ed by Patrick Skinner, a police officer in Georgia, a former CIA operations officer, who served in the Coast Guard and with the US Capitol Police (hardly a lefty-commie-pinko-antifa elite effete):
“Young adults with anger management and impulse control issues are a parent’s challenge. Young adults with anger management and impulse control issues and a Glock 19 pistol with an extended magazine are a nation’s shame.”
Being a good person with a gun does not in any way make a person accurate. Addin more guns into the equation will mean public gun battles with many incompetents shooting everything in sight.
I notice several comments above from people who apparently think that the 2nd Amendment was intended to protect the right to hunt and target shoot, and that anyone who mentions its true motivation — adduced by the founders who had just won a revolution against the mightiest military force on the planet by calling on colonials who showed up with their own guns — must be crazy. But the founders wanted to be sure that future American citizens could do it again if the need arose, which is why the 2nd Amendment refers to the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
And for those who scoff and say “It Can’t Happen Here” (an excellent book, by the way, from Sinclair Lewis; I recommend it) I offer these data, assembled and published in 1994 by Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (motto: “Never Again”):
Genocides of the 20th Century
(Dates in parentheses are when gun-control laws were enacted.)
–Ottoman Turkey, 1915-1917 vs. Armenia, 1-1.5M casualties (1866, 1911)
–Soviet Union, 1929-1953, vs. anti-Communists and anti-Stalinists, 20M (1929)
–Nazi Germany+occ. Europe, 1933-1945, vs. Jews, Gypsies, Gays, and anti-Nazis, 13M (1928, 1938)
–China, 1949-1952, vs. anti-Communists, 20M (1935)
–China, 1966-1976, vs. pro-reformers, 15M (1935, 1957)
–Guatemala, 1960-1981, vs. Maya Indians, 100K (1871, 1964)
–Uganda, 1971-1979, vs. Christians and political rivals, 300K (1955, 1970)
–Cambodia, 1975-1979, vs. “intelligentsia”, 1M (1956)
I’ve had enough of cons defining terms inferring a sinister motive in any opposition ie pro-life or pro-abortion instead of pro-choice. The more correct term is ‘weapons regulation’ Also making ‘woke’ a bad term for aware…

Oops-speculum is trying the standard “LOOK!!! OVER THERE!!! SOMETHING SHINY!!!” deflection technique when someone points out THE TRUTH to him/her/it.
And yes, President Biden IS doing a much better job then Agolf Twitler EVER DID!!!
Remember, he has to FIX everything that Twitler SCREWED UP!!!

Would need to kill the filibuster for gun control issues in the Senate for any sane legislation to be passed.

I love this cartoon, and it’s corollary:Bad guys get guns when “good” guys make it easy.

The GQP wants to eliminate the ballot box solution too.

You know bad guys weren’t always bad guys. They started out as good guys but later changed. Sometimes the first sign is a mass shooting.

I dare anyone to try to undermine that sentiment.

One very important thing to keep in mind:
Being a good person with a gun does not in any way make a person accurate. Addin more guns into the equation will mean public gun battles with many incompetents shooting everything in sight.

With both the Florida and Uvalde shooters, both were stopped by a good guy with a gun.
