@old1953 – I’m sure prison is a terrible place to be and it certainly does cost taxpayers an enormous amount to incarcerate criminals – So what is your suggestion for what we do with violent criminals?
There seems to be a lot of anecdotal evidence that suggests african-americans are getting an unfair shake in the criminal justice system – But I haven’t any unbiased conclusive studies that prove it out. In fact, I’m pretty sure they don’t exist or Rev Jesse and Race-baiter Al would be touting them on the news every night.
Simply saying there is a higher percentage of African Americans in prison then other races is not proof that the system is stacked against them. And I grow weary of listening to the race card get played every time a young man of color is sentenced for a very real crime against society.
Now- If you want to talk about removing some of the laws that lead to these convictions; I’m willing to listen. I have no problem with erasing the laws on drug use and drug sales which seems to catch the lion’s share of these men. But I think you will find it difficult to convince a majority of citizens that we shouldn’t incarcerate convicted men and women after they have committed violent crimes: Rape, Murder, Assault, Battery, Theft, etc.
