It’s a pun, Joe. Grapfhics was referencing the Christmas song, “Deck the Halls.”

Also, the word “gay” originally meant “having or showing a merry, lively mood.” The new definition of “homosexual” has only recently been added.

If a word is used often enough in common parlance, dictionaries will pick them up. “Google” is now officially recognized as a verb.

Donned…to put on…Gay means “happy”. Apparel means clothing, esp. outerwear; garments; attire; raiment. anything that decorates or covers.

Joe…grapfhics was saying he was putting on his happy clothes. He was obviously in his happy place.

Not sure which is funnier….Joe trying to intellectualize comic humor….or you guys trying to explain comic humor to Joe.

Joe, it was a reference to a cartoon in a Holiday issue of Playboy some 40+ years ago. Probably by Phil Interlandi, who captured the era so well.

People here often do go right past the humor and look for the unrelated minutia to focus on.

The joke here is as plain as the make up on the dad’s face. That’s where it should end. If you don’t enjoy the joke, move on.

It seems the transvestites are coming in handy because they are donating nylon stockings needed for help in cleaning up the oil mess in the Gulf. Seems nobody else wears the stupid things anymore, and they can be used to fill with hair, which attracts oil and will be one of the tactics used in the clean up. Heard it on NPR.

See, the guy is having his daughter put makeup on him and is having her fix up his hair but he DOESN’T want his wife to know it’s HIS idea so he’s telling his daughter that she should tell her mother (who is the guy’s wife I believe at least that is what I think must be the case) that it was the daughter’s idea to do this so that the wife (mother?) won’t think it’s the father’s (husband’s?) idea to have a hair makeover and makeup put on him because it’s what HE wants to have done instead of it being his daughter’s idea which of course it’s not it’s his idea really but he doesn’t really want to admit that even though he should be honest with his wife and if that’s the way he likes to do things he should just tell her instead of asking his daughter to lie because children should NOT lie to their parents even if one of the parents asks them to although I guess this COULD be a stepfather or maybe these are foster parents and the little girl is just a foster child instead of their real daughter although this could be a son or a foster son as I can’t see any actual identifying gender traits that would make this clear. I get this joke - it is funny.
