While Val feels a pang of jealousy…
Thanks, Alix, but you know that my kids won’t be thinking twice about the “After Labor Day” kids next May while they’re outside playing. :-)

In Michigan, by state law to protect the tourism industry (no joke), schools can’t start until after Labor Day.

In our part of Kentucky, kids got out May 21. School started August 11.

We start end of August, and go until mid-June, unless we have more than 5 snow days, which we usually do, and then it’s extra days. Last year we went until the second-to-last week in June.
I don’t know any states that start after Labor Day anymore. We live in New England, and all of the Northeast states started either last week or this week.

My daughter started school on July 27. And not a moment too soon, either.

Here in KS especially Wichita a few years ago a bond was passed by voters to allow A/C in schools, Now a different city in KS due to budget problems decided to wait until closer or after Labor Day found it’s too expensive to keep schools cool so kids don’t sweat. Also about poverty there are a lot of kids also not in school who are homeless like parent’s who have no jobs. There have been in smaller area schools around KS that been A/C for a long time. Another type of school in a small Mennonite who don’t believe in electricity.

rayannina which state is that in or city? Doesn’t sound much like a summer break giving kids a chance to unwind.

Here in VA, it’s after Labor day as well (tourism industry, AKA the King’s Dominion/Busch Gardens law).

@baslimthebegger [Thorby sends greetings]
I remember as a military brat leaving New Jersey to South Carolina over Thanksgiving and not missing a day of school. In my mind, considering that included cleaning quarters, that was dirty pool!

In New York, at least on Long Island, we don’t start until after Labor Day, and finish on June 24th.

In MN I believe it’s a state law to start after Labor Day, It was designed to allow kids the “educational experience” of the State Fair - unless it’s a charter school, then they can start earlier (that’s my kids - started Aug 16).

Hey what’s the gripe? School always started either on my birthday or the day before!!!! Imagine, first day of high school is your birthday!

In Georgia, where I used to live, school now starts somewhere around August 8th. Ouch … On the other hand, summer starts sometime around May 20th. They keep pushing the start of school earlier and earlier …

My birthday is today, Aug. 31, and I have started school many times on my birthday. Our schools here in Colorado started around the 23rd of Aug. this year.

I began on the 23rd. It was a sad day… She is lucky that she has no school and that she can actually wear shorts.. It’s raining and cold at my house. :(
