None of the guys must be married because if they were, their wives would be making the food contribution.

They’re asking for sweets at my company’s party (they provide lunch), so I’ll get a box of fresh made chocolate chip cookies at the store.

Just one of these years the ladies should bring nothing because there’s always too much food.

Or at least not put the dishes on the table until the freeloaders leave.

When I was operating as a single male (not my favorite state, but hey) I brought good stuff. Cookies, deviled eggs, at LEAST mac-n-cheese from scratch. A solo male friend had figured out how to bake and bring a “rustic” loaf of bread and a stick of butter. He got RAVE reviews.

And the best place I worked (not single by then) they had plenty of $$ to have the holiday party catered with optional potluck items. They always provided at least two kinds of beer/ale, crudites, meatballs and savory tarts of some kind… and a sheet cake served with vanilla ice cream. Usually no chocolate, though, so I usually bought and brought a bag of medium good chocolate candy.

Maybe you should have separate potlucks. One for the men and one for the women. Then you can enjoy the meal knowing that everyone contributed. The men can just guzzle beer and eat chips and pretzels.

If the guys can barely open a can do you want to eat an entrée they have made?

When I worked at the furniture factory in Orleans, VT, we had food in each department. I usually came in with drink.

Being a fussy eater I bring nothing and eat nothing. But I enjoy the party.

I never worked for a company that did potlucks. Most catered or we went to restaurants which the company paid for. How is a holiday party a reward if it just creates more work?

We solved that in our office. You sign up to bring something, or don’t show up.

Combover guy isn’t wrong. You should bring something at least every other time you go if there are regular potlucks as a matter of principle. But there is always far too much food.

None of the places I worked — large or small — ever had anything like that.

Pretty accurate from my experience. The last place I worked, the women would prepare some tasty dishes. Most of the men would stop at the grocery and pick up chips, donuts, donut holes, salsa, etc. I say most as I would make a taboli salad from scratch.
