Reindeer: Working conditions are harsh, my pay has been cut and I have to work holidays. But, hey, at least I have a job.
I have heard the same comment from many friends. According to the news one of the sad facts of this recession/depression is that many compainies aren’t hiring because their employees are now working harder and getting more done, so they don’t need more people.
I have to agree with you. Here in the welfare office, we’ve had a hiring freeze for three years, but many retirements and the usual numbers moving to other jobs, so the workforce is down about 40%. However with the economy being what it is, our applications have doubled over the past 18 months. I would love to be able to take care of our disadvantaged, but please give me a chance!
And our dear governor Ed Rendell has once again threatened to terminate another 1000 state workers if the state congress does not approve his “pet” bill.
PS - If you ever see Ed Rendell’s name in the future, RUN!
Even my most liberal union buddies are so happy that his term is up in 2010.
OLD, a wee nip of the Irish in the coffee, hm?
oldlego glorious gorilla asked me to wish you a merry christmas. (she’s off visiting relatives.)
Is it just me or do those harnesses look like BDSM gear?
No, I thought they looked like chastity belts, and it was another way of “management” to control his workers’ output.
