Wow. such a happy couple. He’s reading the paper, and she has a stack of romance novels, and neither one is looking at the other. Too bad divorce won’t be legal for another 74 years.

Alice took a stack of books to the portrait sittings, knowing how many hours they would spend nearly motionless. Gary took the weekly paper, and didn’t quite get through it before the painting was finished.

Used to watched matches back in the early days of cable tv back in the early 80s but stopped caring about golf after the old timers died. Now with the Saudis involved, same Saudis who helped fund al-Qaeda and 9/11, I may never watch another golf game ever.

Some of those merger terms: The PGA will have holes 1 -8 and 12 – 18. LIV will have 9-11.

That is impressive response time given what we usually assume is a long lead time between creation and publishing.

Afternoon on the Terrace or An Afternoon on the Porch

    Paste (including the quote marks)

    "Category:Newspaper readers in art" site=commons.wikimedia.org

(syntax supported by the Google, Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, Ecosia and Yandex search engines) in the browser address bar (or search for it using one of those search engines) and choose the first Category: found and once there find the text string Pomeriggio, and click its link for info and links that point to more info about this 1895, roughly lifesize painting.

Again, a larger strip image is shown by (Ctrl- or right-) clicking the image in Mr. Melcher’s MASTERPIECE #3144 (June 7, 2023) blog entry, accessible by the Check out the blog! box after the last comment, and using the dropdown menu (even larger, if you trim what’s after .png from the URL). I have added a comment there pointing to info about this artist I used to point to here. So far, first work by him used here.

This is another of several Masterpieces for which all of my original Comments (and Replies to others) were deleted by GoComics and not later restored. About a year later I’ve decided to do my best to recreate at least one response for each of those paintings:

/// While her bro reads his paper, sis looks

at his pile of worn paperback books.

    When she checks, she discovers,

    between plain yellow covers,

lurid tales about hookers and crooks.

/// It is clear that her “shy” brother reads

    about more than political deeds.

    Many pages were lewd,

    and together they’re “glued”

by dried evidence of carnal needs.
