I never knew about “Fit as a fiddle” as a kid. Not that it mattered as I was too busy playing video games rather than playing with others.

That’s not the shape you want, anyway, though. It’s fine for girls, but not boys.

I’m a 71 year old cancer survivor. I’m in much better health today than I was 20 years ago (25 pounds lighter for one thing).

With you on that one. Best shape I was ever in was after basic trading in 1972. Been slowly downhill since. You fight it for a while but after a while it’s “I’ll take seconds please”.

Though I feel like the body looser, now, I was once fit as a fiddle. I played soccer, lifted weights, jogged for good health and keeping up with the younger refs, and I reffed the soccer game for 30 years. Now I tune in to a TV soccer game to watch the refs. Boy they make bad calls. Now, I’ve got bad knees made worse by other problems, but there’s always hope. So, I keep plugging on, adjust to the present environment. It is what it is. So I live with it. And preach on. My mouth and vocal cords still work just fine.

Brutus, I’ve seen some might fat fiddles. So big they had to sit on the floor to be played. You’re not fat just portly. Just don’t list to far to port. And a ship is said to be “trimming” when she tips forward or backward. So tell people you’re moving toward Starboard slowly.

Darn. Started reading my comics too late and everyone beat me to the bass fiddle gag. : (. But once again Brutus shows his remarkable self awareness. It’s never too late to start getting healthier Brutus. Health benefits increase and all cause mortality decreases with as little as 15 minutes of walking a day.

i smoked and drank way too much in my younger days and would often take smoke breaks while skiing, hiking, or biking, which i suspect negated the benefits of the exercise (☺). i don’t need smoke breaks anymore and i don’t get out of breath at the merest exertion, either…

I’ve never been fit as a fiddle. I’m very easy-going, and fiddles are too tightly strung.
