As a math guy who occasionally teaches an AP Statistics class, I take umbrage to this. We have a representative democracy. The people who represent us are elected to represent the will of their constituency. How else can one know what your voters want unless you ask them?
If your constituency does not agree with you then you either have to resign, bow to the will of the people or convince them to your point of view. If you don’t do those things, why should they re-elect you?
