It really is just as simple (in principle) as it seems: Spend less than you take in. The (unprincipled) truth is, though, that politicians can’t do that.
The solution for today is:1. Stop printing money at the Federal Reserve. That is the source of most of our debt. It also destroys the value of the dollar.2. Cap all government spending each year.3. Require a transition to a balanced budget that would be funded solely with taxation except in time of national crisis which would require obvious triggers and a 2/3 vote in Congress (both houses).4. Reform entitlement programs to means test and transition to individual ownership and away from payroll taxation for social security/Medicare. (all health and welfare spending exclusively for the poor and fully funded).5. cut military.6. End departments like Education, Energy.7. Return most functions run by the Federal Governement to the states and the people.
And close the National bank that was ensuring credit to a growing nation. Jackson’s economic policies caused a depression that was twice as deep as the one in the 1930s.
And if SCOTUS disagrees, Jackson said; " The Supreme Court has their decision, now let them try to enforce it." (approximate quote, I’m old and my memory is dusty)
One of the largest sources of federal income is the tax on alcohol. When some were debating the repeal of the Prohibition Amendment, a Dupont scion was one of the most strenuous advocates. He reasoned that if you put a 3¢ tax on a glass of beer in a saloon, it would be possible to repeal federal income tax—which of course was his real purpose. 3¢ multiplied by the multitude would let the filthy rich off the hook.
Note: in those days, the typical charge for a glass of beer was 5¢ (about 80¢ in present-day money), so a three-cent tax would have been grossly out of proportion.
“When pressed on this point (the establishment of the National Bank) he stated that Liberty and sound morals were served by a sound currency and a nation free of debt. Disordered, depreciated currency, an empty treasury, and general economic depression were the breeding grounds of those dread opposites tyranny and anarchy.”-John C. Calhoun; The Price of Union, book by John Niven.

Of course! Hegemonic land grabs! It’s so simple, I wonder why no one ever thought of that before.

Get the rich and corporations to pay their fair share. They don’t and the country suffers while they buy more yachts and kill elephants for kicks.

I know, let’s call it manifest destiny, the white man reaps what god has given them. I wish this was sarcasm.
