No different if we had left 60 days after we hit the ground. Well, unless you add in the cost of lives and $$$$$ wasted.

We have a Muslim friend, and to say he loathes the Taliban is a massive understatement. “That’s not religion! You don’t change people’s minds with cruelty. If they think Allah is going to let them into Paradise with blood on their hands, they are in for a big surprise.”

Religion has always been a tool easily misused by power-seekers.

The U.S. knew this years ago. It was expected that the Afgan army would not just throw away their (U.S. provided) weapons and give up. Reminds one of the Italian Army during WWII.

Who didn’t know that this would happen as soon as we withdrew troops? Our being there just prevented what we knew was inevitable.

Any government that needs to rely on foreign troops to stay in power is not a legitimate government and does not deserve to remain in power.

Taliban: We refuse to negotiate with the illegitimate government but we’ll give you a vague promise that at sometime in the future we’ll negotiate with the government we declare to be illegitimate. Only a moron could foresee this takeover . . . Oh right, it was a total moron who signed the surrender.

I did not see any other country in the world offer to step into the shoes left behind by the USA.

The vast majority of my sympathy is for the women and girls that got a small taste of freedom while the USA was there. Although, that was largely restricted to the larger cities that we had a presence in. Much of the rural areas, likely won’t notice much of a difference, or even care who’s politically in charge.
