And never forget that the rich like the way things are: That’s what made them rich. And that humans are mostly creatures of habit. It’s going to be really hard to get enough people on board with conservation to make even a little difference, and “even a little” isn’t anywhere near enough.

You let yourself get into a bind by listening to the lies of the oil companies and the scientists they bought to convince the right wingers to deny climate change.

Way back when… the scandals and horror of coal mining’s mountains of smelting residue slipping and sliding to bury schools and children under the avalanches of stinking coal ash …..the headlines of miners buried in mine collapses and the horror of their families watching and waiting for those miners to be rescued, hopefully still alive… with shocking reports of the numbers of miners who were suffering black lung disease…. back when the American people could still be shocked by just how filthy and abusive the coaling industry really was… The public understood that there is no such thing as Clean Coal. The miners knew it, the miner’s families knew it, the industries that used that coal knew it, heck… the entire country knew it. We knew that we needed clean renewable energy as far back as the 50s ( actually way before then)… Somehow in these last few decades…. renewable energy became the bad guy… because it was killing the coal mining industry (boo hoo, waa waa)… and that all goes double for the oil industry and how the oil industry has knowingly polluted our world. In all that time we have never been shamed into giving up our easy access to all that dirty energy as long as it made our lives more convenient. Now we are paying the price for dirty energy… All of those years we could have… would have…. should have demanded clean renewable energy. It really is our children who will suffer for our selfishness.
