“Given more than our share?” Per capita I doubt it, even taking private & government aid into account.

But screw that point. Western aid is normally conditioned. Chinese aid is even worse. Rather end subsidies and end tariffs. Fair trade is by far the best aid.

I agree. The only reason the US gives is to coerce and blackmail other nations to follow our programs. And we do it to ourselves. NCLB is an excellent example. Or the coming national health care system. You want the money? You’ll follow our rules. It’s ridiculous to think that the US, or anyone else, provides aid simply because we’re a nice bunch of folks. It just isnt so.

Oldlegodad: I quite agree, a few European nations have a long way to go for reparations for the damage they caused through colonisation. Using your argument, I take it you’re for Reparations for slavery in your country? And by extension, reparations for all the other military misadventures the US has had in the past, seeing as you mention the Philippines?

I mention per capita as it allows apples to be compared with apples. Norway is 4,6 million people but it is by far the (or one of the) most generous, and possibly unconditioned, donor, per capita. If I compare all the countries with 300 million or more people (that puts the US 3rd behind India & China), then I might say the US is the most generous, yet with so many strings, it gets tangly.
