I tried a pun with Che / que? but meh The clue would be in the beret’s emblem. Che’s iconic beret had a red star, this one appears to have …the Egyptian Eagle of Saladin from its flag? The faces within the face I imagine are protesters in general, with placards/banners although the cartoonist has used the same face several times over for the crowd.

Che Guevara was a revolutionario. In America we call them terrorist because they overthrow governments. I am guessing that this is what the cartoonist wanted to draw. That the Egyptian people wanted overthrow their dictator of a leader.

Fennec & Mexícano: While I’m fairly indifferent to Che, in a chat on this forum last year, when I had an icon with a “que” parody of the Che icon based on a popular º70s British show called Fawlty Towers, I discovered through Bruce just how much disliked Che is in the US. I’m going to presume his image in the US is linked more to Marxism/socialism? Therefore his failings are highlighted more as Mexicano mentions in his explanation (that he is more likely to be viewd as a terrorist). He has a more favourable image everywhere else as a man who stood up for the downtrodden and his icon is usually symbolic in liberation struggles of any kind, his failings are not mentioned that much or not at all. I guess that is what Sabaaneh is trying to bring across: the determination of the Egyptian peoples is the same of the determined look captured in that iconic image of Che.

^…and in the other corner we have:

Despite it the myth goes on which brings us back to its use in this ‘toon.

@ fennec: No, it doesn’t belong on viewsLatinAmerica but since Che is, it probably confused the gocomics dude.

hey, at least almost everyone agrees that it resembles che’s silhouette… and it’s so nice to read about people agreeing rather than its opposite.

Church; If I want the real picture on dogs, I don’t ask Mittaines.

And if I want the real picture on the Che, I don’t ask you.

Churchy, wipe the saliva off your mouth. Everyone who disagrees with you is not necessarily a socialist. They’re just people with measurable I.Q.’s.

I discovered that my parody t-shirt of those who wore Che t-shirts was not only lost on them but by others who despise him, too.

I do find a resemblance between these people and those who believe in American force for good or exceptionalism.

    Apropos the icon:

A revolutionary idea to stop firms cashing in on Che artwork
