No doubt that it is an ego trip but everyone spends the time and money that they have for the trip that they want and can afford. Some might think that it is wasteful but it’s theirs to do what they want to do with it.
Next we will have passengers heading to coach and pointing fingers at those in first class chanting SHAME! SHAME!
If the world’s wealth was distributed evenly among the world’s people, in a relatively short time, the distribution would be similar to our distribution of wealth, with many of the same characters in the top slots. It’s more an issue of OCD than genius the drives the ultrawealthy, so do not ever expect their wealth to be put to practical use.
I have a relative with OCD. She’s the least materialistic person I know. I consider these behemoth billionaires as hoarders. Spending on themselves for more “things” is fine. Spending on others… nah, unless it means their hoard with grow bigger.
Getting one up-manship is ridiculous! If they’re so intent on doing good, why don’t they build shelters for all the homeless? Donate to cures, donate to the poor, etc…
I used to think these displays of wealth, status and upmanship were a total waste. But then I got to thinking……….This rocket launch allowed the rocket launch crew to have another work day. They had to use fuel that had to be manufactured and transported. Enabling fuel makers and truck drivers to work that day. Then there was lunch……Then the computers, lights, paper clips, janitorial cleaning supplies, paper, desks, chairs….the list is endless. Whatever the latest rich bozo wants in the way of his one upmanship, provides jobs for lots of people. Sometimes the rich bozo manages to off himself, thereby providing funeral homes and gravediggers the work to feed their families. However much Bezos paid was slowly dispersed to a lot of working people. So, yeah, it’s not a waste.
