I don’t know. If I had a civilian “airship” stray into foreign airspace I’d be on the phone. But maybe the Chinese lost the number and the module to allow descent is still in shipping from Ali-Express.
Launch an Western one over China and watch them go ballistic.
What makes me curious is that as I understand it a great deal of their economy and personal wealth is derived from export, and its biting the hand that feeds you and all that. A lot of production is for domestic consumption and if that was all it took, they wouldn’t bother to export. If India supplants Xi & CCP as a source of cheap labour and material there will be domestic unrest behind the Great Wall.
After we shot it down, China responded with “it reserved the right to take further actions” and criticized the U.S. for “an obvious overreaction and a serious violation of international practice”. I’m quoting from the Denver Post, article was headlined:
SURVEILLANCE; written by Assoc Press: Zeke Miller, Michael Balsamo, Colleen Long, Aamer Mahdhoni & Lolita C. Baldor.
Since when is it “International Practice” to fly a surveillance balloon over ANY country?? Xi has b—ls of steel; I’ll say that for him.
Stupid, idiotic and totally inappropriate cartoon. Just what nation in the world is going to be happy with a hostile nation flying a spy mission, whether it be an aircraft or balloon over their territory? Also, the USA is not a whiny little boy. It’s a f¥cking 800 lb. gorilla and the sole remaining super power in the world. Yeah, I know most of the world gets into a tizzy when this truth gets rubbed into their self righteous faces. But, what other nation would you have entrusted with this kind of power? China? NorK? India? Any of the Middle East nations? We already know what Russia would do and they were thought to be the second most powerful nation in the world. Good thing that was a myth.

Not funny. It’s not like the US can trust China in any respect. But then again, this is the European view.

The cartoonist got it backward. The balloon is China’s childish reaction to the US navy cruising near Taiwan.

I’m guessing this was done before the kid pulled out a needle & popped the balloon.
