Blowing up Peeps in the microwave was an annual event—what else are you supposed to do with them?

Teacher: “What the hell happened here!?”

Amelia to Wallace: “Not a peep.”

And for the rest of the world… who like me have never heard of “peeps”… Peeps are marshmallows sold in the United States and Canada that are shaped into chicks, bunnies, and other animals. There are also different shapes used for various holidays. Peeps are used primarily to fill Easter baskets…

Actually, they are marshmallow rolled in sugar. Sometimes then coated in chocolate. Yum.

LIFE TIP. Do not microwave batteries. Or squirrels.

The short answer is that it makes for a very big mess to clean.

And, by the looks of it, kills your microwave. If you’ve got an instance of where your microwave door is getting launched off like that, most likely the rest of the microwave’s biting it too.

Actually, a microwave exploding like that is very dangerous to be around, so I’m glad Amelia didn’t stay in the room to see the results up close, and I hope no one else was in that back room when it blew.

Just tell the parents you were checking if the speed of light had changed: https://www.npr.org/2015/04/15/399751447/fun-with-physics-finding-the-speed-of-light-with-peeps

Peeps jousting: Two Peeps are placed, facing each other on the microwave turntable, with toothpicks stuck out like swords, with the tips nearly touching.

I miss MiniCon, with its annual “Don’t Try This At Home” panel. People would bring their old microwaves. I also learned about dropping a lit match into a glass bottle of whiskey you’ve just finished for a brief, entertaining blue flame. Never got to try that at home, because I never have such a bottle to finish.
