Expertly set up punchline, as I also forgot Sterling’s rampant pyromania for a second. But it is nice to know that Mrs. M is fully aware her son will burn it burn it all down if he gets fire for half a second.
Also let’s face it putting Sterling in low light IN GENERAL is a terrible idea. As we’ve seen at least twice with Spud it allows him to stalk around like Chucky unoticed. Even in LIGHT he can usually escape not being noticed till he’s naked and destroying the town. So adding a ton of shadows is just asking for him to finally commit baby’s first murder.
Supposedly early humans had feral brains until recently claiming that was why only now in a mere 6,000 years while the other 244,000 years, we didn’t do much more than just stone carvers all that time and killing each other instead of building and losing technical empires of varying levels of technology. Sterling is one of them a throwback.
Curiously, the word flames is the family’s codeword to wake everybody up and run from the house in case of a fire. Sterling has learned it all too well, apparently.

Keeping the budding pyromaniac away from anything combustible will be a major accomplishment.
