Amelia – Hard pass. Spud – “Can I eat mayonnaise from the jar while reading them?” Rose – “Will there be any science comics? Like XKCD or Atomic Robo?” Mom – “Keep talking.” Sterling – “Can I eat the seagull raw?”
I volunteer for my local library’s book sale department. On occasion, the library will donate books that haven’t been checked out often (or at all). I was surprised when they gave us dozens of Young Adult graphic sci-fi novels. I would have thought there would be an interest in them.
Actually, that could get more participation and involvement in the local public library which would benefit the community at large. While l would have chosen a different charity, l still commend him for the thought, though not totally unselfish……
That’s actually a great plan! Though it banks entirely on the library following through on it, because once the money is in their hands…I don’t see how Wallace can guarantee it’s not spent on anything else, like, I dunno, a new checkout table or something instead.
Wallace’s Mom, it’s fine to talk with your kids about finances, you know? Wallace is old enough to understand, in child-friendly terms, stuff like bills, college funds and that a stay at home mom and a fisherman aren’t going to have a financially easy life. Sell the rock to see what it gets you. Donate a nice amount of it to the library, whichever sum is appropriate depending on how much you can sell it for, give each kid twenty bucks to spend as they like, and invest the rest into something safe but relatively high-yielding for Wallace’s future.
He can read “Wallace the Brave” by Will Henry. A 176-page book on your local library’s shelf, right now! (it was actually a free borrow on Hoopla last month too)

I’m surprised. I really thought that they would try to track down the person who lost the emerald.

Unless you’re independently wealthy, you don’t give away a windfall like this. And I don’t think Wallace’s family is that well off.
