Spielberg is keenly aware of using sound to create emotion and identity. From the 2 note warning for sharks in Jaws, to the 5 note greeting in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Both are universally recognized, annd immediately identifies the film.
I do not think I ever saw the movie Jaws. But I do remember my Uncle GV telling me about a beach that had 100,000 people on it and two people in the water who had not yet seen the movie.
While I do appreciate the humor behind this strip, with all the recent shark attacks that have been reported here in the U.S. recently, some actually causing death, it doesn’t hit the funny bone as much as it would have otherwise.
Reminds me of the commercial for the Weather Channel where Jim Cantore goes to the beach with his family and everyone runs off thinking that a hurricane is coming. For those not familiar for years they would always film Cantore reporting from the midst of every hurricane in the US

This is the 3rd time in a week a strip has tried to imply that the Jaws theme is playing.

I saw Jaws when I was 17 in a drive-in. It scared me horribly.

Could have done the same thing with either a Banjo or an Accordion.

I’ve heard that sharks kill fewer people per year than vending machines.
So maybe there’s a vending machine in the water. That’s the real threat.

Regardless …….. the desired action was accomplished …… Beach all “CLEAR” ……… :)

They might have accomplished the same thing with accordions. (I happen to like bagpipes, so I didn’t suggest that option).
