Zen Pencils by Gavin Aung Than for March 03, 2014
Transcript:
I was afraid going to school because the Taliban had issued an edict banning all girls from attending. Only 11 students attended class out of 27. I want every girl, every child to be educated. I have the right to education. I have the right to play. I have the right to sing. I have the right to speak up. Even if they come to kill me... I will tell them what they are trying to do is wrong, that education is our basic right. I will get my education, if it is in home, school, or any place. They cannot stop me. -Malala Yousafxai

Why is part of this strip blocked? I’d like to know the reason.

The question remains: Why was the strip blocked?
Russell Sketchley Premium Member about 11 years ago
I don’t think the strip was “blocked” in any sense of censorship. GoComics has this problem occasionally of losing part of a strip in this way. It’s happened twice to this one and several times in others.

This isnt the only strip that isnt loading right lately. It seems like the larger panel, more artistic strips are not being delivered. thanks for the Zen link anyone got one for Pibgorn?

Did not Go Comics change hands a short time ago?Well they blew it!They have doubled the cost and halved their competence.

Second time in a row this strip is screwed up. And Li’l Abner is unreadable at this size (no zoom). Doesn’t anyone working here look at their pages? Unacceptable.

We demand an apology from Gocomics!

I was given the book as a Christmas gift. This young woman is an inspiration to everyone.

I think the better question is why GoComics is trying to pass off comics that were drawn over a year ago as new. If you check Zen Pencil’s archive you’ll see this was dated February 19, 2013 not March 3, 2014.

disappointing – if Gocomics did black it out, we should know why, to me they blacked out the wrong part IMO

It’s just a computer error. Has nothing to do with censorship.

Its a shame that many folks just now realize the plight of women. I lived over there back in 1964 for three years. Now 50 years later nothing has changed. 50 years……and the violence is unchanged..I see current photos of areas I personally visited and the streets and the people are unchanged. I can still remember the smells…..some were not pleasant. And she is not the only one…..world wide this continues….even in the more civilized countries. She got the press…….its just one but its a beginning.

The reason GoComics did not have the whole thing is more likely related to bandwidth (or other computer issue) rather than censorship. I was glad to see the WHOLE STRIP HERE and hope this makes it easier for everyone to see the whole thing.

Fox News blocked it.

when i clicked on the strip’s name to see the comments, the entire strip was there – or – here… I don’t think they were being censorious. I think there was a lot of data to download.

It’s working now – conspiracy averted.

Wow! Seriously?!? Censorship of our 1st Amendment rights in action in the Socialist States of America.

Many of the comments on here remind of the Zen Pencils strip called “Negativity Destroys All” #145.
Do any of you have green skin?

I have read this through Gocomics and nothing was blacked out. Maybe it’s the browser. Malala is a true inspiration. She was ready to die for what she believed in, not to many leaders or people would do that. After she was shot, her cause became stronger and people united in support of her. A true hero.
aerilim about 11 years ago
As you can see, asking from here did the trick. And I ask nicely so, you are out of order .

I read this and tears are in my eyes. Thank you. Such courage and integrity is truly inspiring….. I ask myself: what is my destiny, my dharma, so that I can move forward and better this misforttunate world with such courage and sagacity?…. Thanks again, Gavin (Bullseye), and Malala.

And now, after almost ten years, Afganistan is back where it started. The Taliban are in power and girls have no rights whatsoever. This is why I don’t have any trust in any religion.
